Pablo Amaringo | Los Loros – Jigsaw Puzzle

Pablo Amaringo | Los Loros

Pablo Amaringo : Los Loros Jigsaw PuzzleA celebration of the beauty and harmony of the Amazon’s flora and
fauna, Los Loros (The Parrots) is the work of Peruvian painter Pablo
Amaringo (1938–2009). Recognized as one of the world’s great
visionary artists, Amaringo was renowned for his intricate, colorful
paintings inspired by shamanic visions. Entirely self-taught, he
painted Amazonian landscapes with meticulous botanical precision.

Pablo Amaringo : Los Loros Jigsaw PuzzleIn 1988 Amaringo co-founded the Usko-Ayar Amazonian
School of Painting in Pucallpa, Peru, whose students, aged eight to
twenty-four, are educated free of cost. The school—dedicated to
documenting the flora, fauna, and culture of the Amazon and inspiring
people everywhere to revere and care for the living Earth—originated
the pictorial style known as neo-Amazonian art. To see more of

Ondas de la Ayahuasca (Waves of Ayahuasca) by Pablo Amaringo

Featured in the book 'The Ayahuasca Visions of Pablo Amaringo'Ondas de la Ayahuasca – Waves of Ayahuasca: Featured in the book ‘The Ayahuasca Visions of Pablo Amaringo‘ by Howard G Charing & Peter Cloudsley

At the top of the picture the sun radiates brilliant waves. As the source of all life on earth, the sun represents the blessings of the divine celestial pattern, the ultimate source of all life in the universe which we call God.

Ayahuasca is one of the most remarkable gifts from the plant realm as it contains chemicals identical to the neurotransmitters found in the human brain. When you drink ayahuasca the sensory neurons which transmit messages inside the brain are enhanced so that a person can receive wisdom and knowledge. The shamans in the ceremony are curing a man suffering from mental illness caused by an imbalance in his pituitary gland and hypothalamus.

Shamans of Peru: Ceremonial Chants, Icaros, and Music CD – MP3 Download from the Web

Shamans of Peru, Ceremonial Chants, Icaros, & Music

The haunting, plaintive music of Peruvian shamans was recorded at ceremonies in the Peruvian Andes and the Amazon rainforest.

The chants and icaros have an organic relationship to the medicine plants, and are primarily intended as devotional music for a ceremony. It is equally possible to listen to the hypnotically beautiful sounds in their own right and simply enjoy them for their otherworldly beauty.

The CD contains chants and dramatic effects of six different ceremonies with shamans. . Two ceremonies with San Pedro maestros working in the atmospheric ruins of Puruchucu; two ayahuasca shamans, a man and a woman, in separate sessions working in a jungle temple on the River Momon, outside Iquitos; a Shipibo shaman working in Yarinacocha, outside Pucallpa; and lastly, a despacho in the ruins of Pisaq, Cusco. In addition there are three tracks of atmospheric music played on pre‐Colombian instruments.

Presentation on Pablo Amaringo at Canning House, London

Presentation on Pablo Amaringo at Canning House

Wednesday 12th September at 2 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8PJ

18:30 – 20:00 – FREE EVENT

A drinks reception will follow the talk with Peruvian speciality Pisco Sour being served courtesy of the Peruvian Embassy.

Pablo Amaringo (1938-2009) was an Amazonian shaman who became increasingly concerned by the disappearance of Amazonian ancestral knowledge and the destruction of the rain forest.

He taught himself to paint and used his talents to teach a new generation to value indigenous ways and develop a new kind of spirituality free from dogma.

This evening’s talk, illustrated by Pablo’s paintings, will explore the stories behind the pictures and what they aim to transmit. We will delve into the world of Amazonian spirits and beings and see what they say about restoring balance to the world.

Peter Cloudsley is a musicologist and author who has worked in Peru since 1980 and co-authored ‘The Ayahuasca Visions of Pablo Amaringo’ published last year.

Canning House is a unique centre dedicated to stimulating understanding and engagement between Britain and the Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian world through dynamic debates, networking events, and education activities.

These are exciting times for Canning House, with UK Government stressing the need to develop closer diplomatic and commercial ties with Latin America, and with support for UK businesses looking to expand their operations in Latin America stronger than ever.

Beyond Red Alert: Super Floods in the Amazon – Help Needed!

Floods in Iquitos

Unremitting torrential rainstorms in combination with a greater than normal glacial melt in the Andes has over the past few months created widespread flooding in the city of Iquitos and the neighbouring areas located in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest in Peru. The water levels in Amazon River and its tributaries such as the Nanay and the Itaya rivers have overflowed and a huge part of the city has become inundated. Many villages and communities have been washed away or are submerged. Over 100,000 people have been displaced by the floods. A State of Emergency was belatedly declared by the Peruvian Government on March 30th.  Marco Paredes, regional head of Senamhi (National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology) expects that the water levels of the rivers will continue to grow. There are also grave concerns about sanitation, and the subsequent spread of diseases such as dengue and malaria.

Bill Grimes the proprietor of the Dawn on the Amazon River Cruises and the fabulous like named cafe (delicious food btw) located on the Malecon has been keeping people posted on the situation with narratives and photos (some of these photos are on ths post), but more than that Bill and his friends have been purchasing drinking water, food, and other emergency supplies and distributing these to isolated villages and communities in the outlying areas.

Iquitos Flood

Bill needs assistance to continue this vital work. Donations will be most welcome to continue and expand the rescue work to allow him to purchase and distribute more emergency supplies. I’ve known Bill for a few years and frequent his cafe whenever I’m in Iquitos, all I can say is that he is one of the genuine ‘good guys’.

You can help in two ways:

  •  Donate money or / and
  • Raise awareness of this appalling situation by posting this on Face book, Blogs, and other social media.

If you would like to send a donation to Bill and his friends; you can do this via Western Union , MoneyGram, or Xoom.com, The details are as follows;

Destination Iquitos Peru, South America.

Recipient; Marmelita Flores Pua De Grimes

Make sure to spell Marmelita’s (Bill’s wife) full name correctly. It must match her National ID card (DNI). The clerk will give you a multi-digit number to identify your transaction. Email the number to Bill bill@dawnontheamazon.com and Bill and Marmelita can collect from the Interbank office in town.

Thanks for making a difference.

The Living Inca Heritage

The Living Inca Heritage by Peter Cloudsley

The Living Inca Heritage by Peter Cloudsley: Published in Geographical Magazine.

INCA and pre-Inca cultures are generally assigned to the realms of history, incarnate only in Machu Picchu and other famous sites. Yet the Peruvian Indians have doggedly preserved some of the ritual beliefs of their ancestors through fiestas, in spite of attempts to suppress them by colonial and religious authorities.

Peter Cloudsley is carrying out research for the Museum of Mankind on Andean musical traditions in southern Peru and the expedition on which this article is based was funded in part by the Emslie Horniman Anthroplogical Scholarship Fund and the Rivendell Trust.

Peter Cloudsley is a musicologist and writer who, since 1980, has created an archive of traditional music and interviews in Peru and collected for the British Museum. He published A Survey of Music in Peru in 1993, and two CDs: Fiesta Music from Peru (2000) and Shamans of Peru (2002). He established the Amazon Retreat Centre in Mishana in 2004.Co-Author of The Ayahuasca Visions of Pablo Amaringo (2011) published by Inner Traditions.
