Llullo Machaco Serpiente Verde
Llullo means green, tender and young in Quechua. In the Peruvian selva people call babies llullos. The idea expressed in this picture is that however our life unfolds and whatever our destiny might be, we are all born in absolute perfection. We are innocent when we come into the world and have no guile or deceits.
The Llullo Machaco symbolises this purity and its verdant colour is like the virgin forest; uncultivated and uncontaminated. The serpent has long been regarded as the evil that tempted Adam and Eve into eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge and religions have used these guilty feelings to manipulate and control us, and no good has come of it. The birds are messengers from the celestial temples and palaces seen above.

Soplo del Banco Puma
The banco puma is a master shaman who transforms himself into a puma to go hunting or to hide from an enemy. In the old days when people in the Ucayali region did not have fire arms to kill large animals, the banco puma would use his ability to bring back food for his family.
When the shaman transforms himself into a puma he acquires its attributes; in particular a keen sense of smell, and sinchi-ňahui (strong eyes) which can mesmerise an enemy. A banco puma is a skilled healer with great knowledge of medicinal plants.

Supai Pucabufeo – The Magical Pink Dolphin
This is the legendary pucabufeo or Amazonian dolphin which transforms itself into an attractive young man and seduces pretty young women with his charm. In the River Ucayali region these beings often make their appearance in the port offering fish, which is what the girls like. After a brief courtship, the girl agrees to live with the pucabufeo but he is never there when other people are around, so he avoids being found out. In the days of the rubber boom, rubber tappers would frequently be away for long periods. That was the ideal time to take advantage of innocent girls, and infants would be born half pink.

Encantu Rumi
This stone is forged in space and brought down to earth when summoned by the sumiruna (the highest grade of shaman) for initiating his disciples in voyaging to other galaxies. The sumirunas below are learning how to receive spiritual fire and how to withstand extreme conditions which they will experience on their lone voyages.
The eagle represents the sublime beauty of the stone, the jaguar its magnetic power and the bull its soul. Above you see the puya runas (cloud people) and the guacamayo runa: people with the head of a guacamayo and the body of a man.

At the top of the picture the sun radiates brilliant waves. As the source of all life on earth, the sun represents the blessings of the divine celestial pattern, the ultimate source of all life in the universe which we call God.
Ayahuasca is one of the most remarkable gifts from the plant realm as it contains chemicals identical to the neurotransmitters found in the human brain. When you drink ayahuasca the sensory neurons which transmit messages inside the brain are enhanced so that a person can receive wisdom and knowledge. The shamans in the ceremony are curing a man suffering from mental illness caused by an imbalance in his pituitary gland and hypothalamus.

Transformacion del chaman en Aguila – The transformation of the shaman into an Eagle.
The shaman transforms himself into an eagle and flies away to bring back esoteric knowledge to his people. When a shaman transforms himself into kinetic energy and merges with the universe, he can see the past, present and future as if it were all one eternal moment.
Above are two celestial guardians bearing swords. These guardians are known as tronos (thrones). They bestow the powers of transformation on the shaman who must master his fear. The soaring of the eagle represents the potential that we humans have to ascend to personal mastery and wisdom.

Amazónica Romantica by Pablo Amaringo – Fine Art Archival Reproductions
Amazónica Romantica
This charming picture was one of Pablo’s final works, and it heralded an intended return to his earlier genre of painting the plants and landscapes of his beloved Amazon rainforest. The painting depicts a couple hand in hand experiencing the mystic enchantment of the selva illuminated by the full moon.
To the lower left are the large leaves of the cocona plant (Solanum sessiliflorum). Cocona fruit is greatly appreciated in the Amazon for making delicious juices and a sauce essential for eating fish: aji de cocona. Just behind is a Shipibo mahuete from which the ayahuasca liana grows. The feet of the mahuete represent the bond that ayahuasca has with Mother Earth.

Yana Huáman by Pablo Amaringo – Fine Art Archival Reproductions
Yana Huáman – Aguila Negra
Yana huáman means ‘black eagle’ in Quechua, and refers to a powerful maestro. The black eagle has phenomenal eyesight and can distinguish small details from a great distance, thus a yana huáman possesses the gifts of insight and discernment.
The woman on the right edge of the picture is the Mother of the puca lupuna. A deserving maestro climbs the stairway (bottom right) to her temple. She is the ‘tree of the red moon’ and teaches the mysteries of the lunar rhythm that influences women’s ovulation.
